In Terni, in the rooms of Palazzo Montani Leone, headquarters of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Terni e Narni, from the 27th of October 2022 to the 8th of January 2023, the exhibition “Drama and Passion – from Caravaggio to Artemisia Gentileschi”, is open. It is an extraordinary journey through the 17th century painting that celebrates the birth and the development of Carravaggism, from the artist’s formative years, to the full flowering of his art, up to the Baroque culture of Mattia Preti.
Visitors will have the possibility to admire paintings by great masters, from Caravaggio to Bartolomeo Manfredi, to Orazio and Artemisia Gentileschi, up to Mattia Preti. Among the works on display will be also possible to admire the Saint Cecilia with a portable organ another Saint and a putto, a mature work by Giuseppe Cesari, known as Cavalier d’Arpino, belonging to the Fondazione Sorgente Group, chaired by Valter Mainetti and his wife Paola.
The exhibition route unfolds through eight thematic rooms, ranging from the rise of the naturalist painting inspired by Caravaggio, to its confrontation with the Emilian Classicism of Guido Reni and Guercino, to the clash with Caravaggio’s enemies, as Baglione Salini, and the triumph of Baroque painting with Bernardo Strozzi and Mattia Preti.
