Fondazione Sorgente Group and the Mainetti Collection of Rome have brought together their paintings by Guercino. Together the two collections contains the most works by the painter in any private collection worldwide. This volume focuses on Guercino’s depiction of women: with a series of important female portraits which cover the entire lenght of his career, the book aims to investigate various cultural aspects of the artist and his era. Daily life, music, morality, religion and esoterism are revealed in the face of this models and help us to understand a bit more about the world of this great painter who was a devout Christian. The female figure became a means for representing something far greater which was divine and abstract.
